Sorry I haven't been on the list in such a long time. When it got so scrambled, I became frustrated and just gave up.
I released Sombra from her struggles with nasal cancer on the morning of Christmas Eve day. She had been getting progressively worse, and the sound of her labored breathing was breaking my heart. I promised her that I wouldn't let her suffer. And I kept that promise. Our vet made a special trip into the clinic. It was a gentle time filled with love and treats (her favorites). It was the first time I'd seen her totally relaxed in months.
The hole she leaves in our lives is unfillable. The gentle beauty that she brought to it was immeasurable. She was loved and treasured every day of her life, and her spirit will shine for us forever.
She held off the cancer for almost a year and a half longer than predicted and was almost 14 years old. She led an amazing life of service and accomplishment. She did good work and brought happiness to all who knew her. Sombra was, and remains, one of life's greatest miracles.
Joe and I burried her on the sunny side of the barn under the Christmas star, which we will leave burning all year in her honor. I can see it from our bedroom, and gives me comfort.
I can't tell you how helpful this list was to me. What I learned here enabled me to greatly improve Sombra's length and quality of life.
Thank you all.
Suzanne
P.S. Sombra was featured in the Smiling Dogs section of the January/February issue of Bark Magazine. It pleases me so much to see her there.
