Arthritis/Joint Disease

My 10-yr old Ziggy's joint problems began getting worse a few weeks ago. After tests and x-rays it was determined that nothing terrible was wrong - just normal wear and tear for a dog his age and breed.

My vet recommended adequan - this is given as an injection. Ziggy has had 4 shots already and the change has been fairly dramatic. He'll probably have 3-4 more shots and then go on some kind of maintenance schedule. The advantage to this medication is that it deals directly with the...

Adequan & old age

Has anyone had any experience with Adequan? I understand that it helps rebuild cartilage, among other benefits. It was originally designed and used on race horses but is now being used on dogs.

My 10 year-old corgi Ziggy has had arthritis/joint disease for a while but it has now started to get worse. It's even possible the main problem now is a disc problem - he's having x-rays tomorrow to determine the source. My vet is opting for adequan because he feels it is safest and best given...

Hi, we have a 1 1/2 year old black lab, Zoe. Since August she has lost 12 pounds, now weighing 48 pounds. She has had numerous blood tests and stool tests, and they can't seem to find anything. She also has been on several different dog foods, currently Nutro. It seems to be the only one that does not give her diarreaha. She eats 4 1/2 cups total a day, with fresh ground lamb and still can not gain any weight.

I have a Jack Russell/Beagle mix who has been on medications 3 times in the last 4 months. She wakes generally perky and in good spirits; by late afternoon she begins to start a fever; this continues throughout the night with several trips to the water bowl and then out to "do her business". We switched our 7+ yr lab to senior food several months ago. Occassionally we noticed some dry dog food in his water bowl. We thought our youngest child was getting into the dog food. Hello! I am new to this board. I have previously been posting under the EZ board relating to canine cushing's disease. I wonder why there are so few posts to this board. The Cushing's board has 10 to 12 posts every day. My little dog, Maggie has cushing's disease, but since we have been trying to treat the cushing's, she has begun going into renal failure. Serious Health Problem

I have a 9 year old Cocker Spaniel, who in the last 6 months has lost over half of his body weight, has been excessively vomiting, and has become very lethargic. I have taken him to several differen vets, who have conducted many different tests, but none have been successful in diagnosing a problem. He recently (last week) has began to have seizures as well. I began giving him baby food which he managed to keep down for a while until about the third day when h began throwing that up as well....

Dachshund in sudden heart failure, Help!

Our 13 yr. old doxie coughed once or twice two days ago. No other symptoms. He had been playing, running, eating, showing no signs of ill health.
Today, he was coughing more and his breathing was labored.
We took him to vet. Xrays showed heart grossly enlarged, with massive pleural effusion.
They said he's in heart failure...They put him on oxygen and told us to call back later.
We know this is a grim prognosis, but are there meds nowadays for heart...

Help - has anyone had this happen to their dog? He is having an endoscopy on Monday but I would be interested in anyone who has been through this. Are they sick because of cancer, ulcer, obstruction, foreign body? Any comments you may have on diagnosis, after care etc. would be greatly appreciated. Just to hear someone else has been through this would be great.

trying to get ahold of Carol regarding our Blondo and her recurring spondylosis. years back she had disc surgery and then a year later was diagnosed with spondy. it went away after several antibiotic treatments w/ Baytril, now it is back. recent xrays show she has osteoarthritis in her front elbows with bone spurs and the spondy is in the lumbar section of the spine. she is a 65lb yellow lab and she is 16 yrs old. she is on a homemade diet of organics, chicken, veggies, etc. Just started...

She's doing really well! The only medication that the vet has prescribed is lasix, an appetite stimulant, and GERITOL!! Mom says that the dog goes crazy over the GERITOL! My mom boils chicken (or cheats and used store-bought rotisserie chicken), shreds it and mixes the chicken into mashed potatoes and cottage cheese; her yorkie actually prefers the mashed potatoes/cottage cheese to the shredded chicken....too funny! collapsed trachea

Could anyone share a personal experience with a small dog with a collapsing trachea? My 7 year old Maltese had his teeth cleaned one month ago and his trachea got harmed by the anesthetic tube. He was in very obvious discomfort for about 2 weeks afterward. He then seemed to be OK but 5 days ago went into heavy coughing with bronchial spasms.
